This is a great example of the ultimate derivation of the most beautiful superbike ever made. It is 1998 Ducati 916 SPS, Number 926 of only 1462 made. It is finished in Red with the white tail, and has only covered 10k Miles from new.
Frame no. ZDMH100AAWB001453 - Engine no. ZDM996W4001614
Introduced for 1994, the Massimo Tamburini-styled 916 superbike and its subsequent evolutions captured the motorcycling public's imagination and established Ducati as one of the world's foremost brand names. Within a short time, the original 916 Strada was superseded by the Biposto (two-seat) version and the higher specification SP. The latter's engine remained at 916cc but added twin fuel injectors and bigger valves to the package for increased power and torque. Next came the ultra-exclusive 916 SPS ('Sport Production Special') of which only 1,462 examples were made (plus 202 of the UK-only 'Fogarty Replica' version). Despite the name, the 916 SPS enjoyed the advantages of an over-bored engine displacing 996cc and delivering a mighty 132bhp at the rear wheel. Of all the members of the 916 family, the SPS and closely related 'Fogarty Replica' are considered the most collectible.
Number '0926' of the series, this 916 SPS was sold new in Germany and imported into the UK in 2001. Our bike was purchased by the previous owner in October 2017. In 2002 the milage was stated at 1,969 miles as showing on a cam belt service from Baines racing. Having covered some 9500 miles the bike suffered a main bearing failure resulting in a complete engine re-build by Corner Speed Ducati in 2017, their invoice for £3,672.42 and a further invoice for £312.01 from Ducati Coventry for a clutch upgrade is included in the history file. Now showing 10,166 miles the bike has just had a complete service including the cam belts, fuel tank filters and new battery. Supplied with the factory hand books and a new UK MoT. This is a lovely example of probably the ultimate Sports bike of the nineties, ride it or keep it in your living room as a work of art, we think this is the most beautiful bike ever built.
